DetailsI am 38 years old and have been getting my period every two weeks for the last 2.5 years. I have taken different oral contraceptions since I was 17 and have been off for at least 2 years. I don't want any children and I also take tegretal for seizures. I have asked my doctor why this is happening but hasn't come up with an answer. Can you help me out. It is getting really annoying and want it too stop.

DetailsHi!
It is extremely common for women to have an usual cycle every now or then. But for 2.5 years...

I would chalk it up to be stress. If it starts to become a pattern that you bleed every two weeks, then it is time to check in with your gynecologist
. Even then it is much more likely to be a hormonal problem or polyp than cancer. So risk that this is cancer is close to zero! Or possibly... HIV of some type?

Good luck!

Dr Perez
